Who Am I?
We all have stories that tell who we are as human beings. Our guests are no different. Each guest whom we serve has a story. I have been trying to capture pics recently of some of our guests in the hopes of sharing a bit of who they are as human beings. I hope you enjoy!
Who am I?
I am Ms. B. Right now I live on the street, but I am working with Lilian from Intown Cares to secure permanent housing. I receive mail at Central Outreach and Advocacy Center as well as other services. I also attend the breakfast ministry on Sunday mornings at Central Presbyterian Church.
(Ms. B is seen here helping to clean the tables after the breakfast ministry at Central Presbyterian Church. A lot of people have been working with Ms. B to get her to where she is right now. I can’t wait to see her in her own place.)
Who am I?
I am “Kountry Kung Fu” (his term, not mine!). I decided to show the Central OAC staff my moves one day when I was checking my mail.
(This guest had several of us in stitches as he showed off his moves. If you see one of us sometime, ask to see the video we took of him. It will have you in stitches!)
Who am I?
I am Mr. A. I am a diesel mechanic. I first came to Central OAC for identification assistance. While there, I learned that they have the Main Frame Resource Lab and began working with Sonja, the Employment Specialist. I got this suit from Alison’s Boutique. I am on my way to finding a good job.
(Mr. A has been working hard at finding a job as a diesel mechanic. In the meantime, he interviewed during our Career Expo day and onboarded with a company that was onsite.)
Who am I?
I am Mr. B. I recently got a construction job and came to Central OAC to get MARTA transportation in order to get to work.
(This guest was so excited! He was sitting in the lobby and telling everyone who walked past him that he got a job. His excitement was contagious!)
Who am I?
I am Mr. W. I came to the OAC to get help with ID. I have been sleeping on the sidewalk outside of the church for over six months. I just found out that I have a place in Decatur. It is rent free for twelve months. I just have to pay lights and water. I am really going to miss ya’ll.
(This guest came to my door one day right before we closed. He asked if he could have one word with me; just one word is what he said. He told me about his housing. I asked him if I could take a picture of him and he said, “Yes, but let me go shave first.” He came back after he shaved and said he needed to sit down for just a minute because his balance is off. He told me about his apartment and started crying. He shared that he is scared and is really going to miss all of us. By the time he left my office, we were both crying. What a privilege to sit and listen to him!)
We are all human beings! I am so blessed to be able to do this job and be privy to moments like I have written about today!
